Tournament History

Catalina Island Golf Course

1 Country Club Dr, Avalon, CA 90704

The City of Avalon has been very fortunate over many years to have the Saldaña family so invested in creating and organizing youth sports on the island. One great example is the Catalina Junior Golf Tournament created in 1961 by Lolo, Frank and Richard Saldaña. Lolo’s son Marty later accepted the role of running the event for several years.  It had not been held for a few years, so in 2023, the Sewell family formed Catalina Jr Golf to bring this great event back to the island each year.

This is a two day tournament, 36 holes.  Many junior golfers who have played in this tournament went on to great success in college and as professionals. Amy Alcott, Craig Stadler, John Cook, Cory Pavin, Tiger Woods, Rickie Fowler and Max Homa to name a few.

The golf is competitive but a critical difference between our tournament and most others offered is the unique opportunity for families to have a great time enjoying a few days on the island. We will have a BBQ after Saturday's round. We have seen new and lasting friendships between players and families develop over the years.

We have two primary goals.

Come join in the fun!
